"Anna," I hear Lilith whisper. "I don't have control over tonight..."
I sit up and face her. If there was ever a time I wanted my daydreams to be real, it would be right now. With someone else controlling my nightmares, and last night's being spot-on, I don't know what to expect... I glance over at the flower I had rescued--a blue hydrangea--sitting in the vase to make sure it's still there. It may or may not be my last hope.
All of a sudden, a bright light shines through my ceiling, and Lilith and I are lifted up. I scream her name and reach for her hand, terror flowing where my blood's supposed to be. Aliens, is all I can think. I'm gonna die; we're gonna die; we're being abducted; aliens... When we're dropped on the floor of a UFO, it's not what I expected at all.
A velvet carpet leads the way to what looks like a fancier version of my living room at home. The layout is the same, but the TV is bigger, couches are nicer, and there's a grand dining table with all of my favorite foods and drinks on it. "Lilith," I whisper, "what do we do?"
"I don't know... Escape?"
"From space?"
"Well..." She looks around, but I can't even force myself to glance around for fear of seeing an...extraterrestrial. "You need to sleep. I'll make sure the coast is clear."
I have no choice but to trust Lilith. I sit down on one of the couches, curl up, and close my eyes, but mental images fill my mind. I can't stand to look at the back of my eyelids, so I get up and all but bury my face in Lilith's shoulder. "I can't," is all I can whisper.
"I get it," she replies softly. "C'mon, lets at least look around a little."
I crouch behind her, wishing she was taller, but being an almost-exact copy of me, we're the same size. We wander white-marble hallways until we hear sounds that can only be produced by something alien. I know their vocal chords are different because I wouldn't be able to mimic their speech patterns. I distract myself with that until a very human scream pierces the air. Peeking through a nearby window shows me a girl I don't recognize under a white sheet stained red around her middle.
Something with see-through purple skin floats beside the girl. It's filled with some black liquid oozing around sluggishly in thick veins. A brain much larger than a human's sits where a human's heart would be, and the beating organ sits right below its five red eyes, which are suspended by antennas. But the worst part about these creatures only classifiable as aliens has to be their mouths. Two tentacle-like arms--they have around twelve on each side--hold its jaw together and up in a creepy smile, showing four purple-tipped tongues and some kind of black drool.
The alien standing by the girl pulls out her heart, cuts it separate from her body, and holds it up as if to show Lilith and me; I can't peel my eyes away, even though I want to throw up. The heart isn't beating, but when the alien pours some clear liquid that splashes too quickly to be water on it, it starts up again, thumping at a strong and steady pace.
Lilith grabs my arm, but before she can pull me away, the alien looks at me with all of its eyes, and another appears centimeters from my face. My own heart stops as the floor rushes up to meet me.

First Flight
How frightening that first flight must have been,
hearts racing into the unknown,
and I should wonder how those men felt
at the first takeoff into the air,
gusts of wind beneath fragile wings,
if not for loving you.

Cadence
it was the softest idea that occurred to me,
while tracing the fresh memory of
your fingers on my skin,
calming me, like the sun going down on the wet, green earth;
this was the tenderness in your face as my tired tears
wet the cushions.
I was wholly encased in your warmth.
there I was slowly suspended, embryonic;
not still, but in a state of cadence,
returning to myself - harmonic
and returning.
you've seen me,
I arrive back to you every morning at the end of my long journeys,
the night still fresh in my cold hair
and the smell of quiet lingering between my fingers;
all the stars still clinging to my clothes and
I arrive at your body. th

Flicker II
My eyes flick up as they latch onto you like webs caught in the wind. In an instant I’m hexed, tied up with your whiskey blinks and misty southern breath. I’m breathing shallow, like woodwind with open holes; defective, and empty of melody. I take a drag, and watch as your eyes slip down from my lips and onto my neck, smoothing down to touch my waist as if you were stroking away creases, glitter; last night’s powder. You swipe back up my body and move closer, and with every one-second-step you make I count them like sheep, trying to lull my heart back into a transient flutter. Rule one: They are customers. Their feelings are

Anyway. We find out a little more about who could be controlling Anna's nightmares! He/she/it obviously knows what Anna's afraid of... But who could it be? And why? But holy crap, I'll never get the image of those aliens out of my head...
